Abstract
The contemporary world is witnessing a transition from established “normal” states to an era termed the “new-normal.” This shift, often accelerated and guided by profound, multifaceted crises, is not merely a temporary return to previous conditions. Rather, it signifies fundamental transformations in the structures of experience, interaction, and meaning at both individual and collective levels within education. In this context, educational systems, particularly curricula as key socio-cultural mechanisms are not only subject to these changes but also become active agents in shaping and consolidating this “new-normal.” Consequently, a critical question arises: How can the curriculum, acting as a critical phenomenological mechanism under the influence of contemporary crises, play a role in producing, stabilizing, and normalizing the “new-normal” within educational systems and curriculum planning? This qualitative study, employing Critical Discourse Analysis within Blaikie’s cognitive framework (what, why, how), seeks to provide a deep, multi-layered interpretation of the curriculum’s role during the new-normal. It appears that the “new-normal in curriculum,” defined as a set of stable, structured changes formed in response to global transformations and now becoming the dominant norm in educational systems and curriculum planning, serves not only as a response to temporary crises but also as a strategic necessity for preparing learners to face an uncertain and variable future in the field of curriculum studies. The study uncovers how language and power dynamics contribute to the normalization of new educational paradigms that embracing new-normal is essential for fostering adaptive learning environments equip students with skills needed for an unpredictable world.
